Dedicated to Service, Committed to Quality at Our Gulf Coast Wireline Services Hub in Laurel Mississippi

Trusted Services and Dedicated Specialists Bring Quality to Every Job in Mississippi and Beyond

Tucked into the heart of southern Mississippi, the Renegade district in Laurel is more than just a dot on the map, it’s a vital hub in a region known for tough terrain, hotter wells, and longer hauls. Since opening in 2014, the Laurel district has taken on the challenge of covering an expansive footprint, stretching from the Gulf to Georgia, and as far west as the Texas line. Supporting operators across the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale, Midway, Cotton Valley, and Smackover plays, the Laurel team regularly tackles high-temperature, high-pressure wells, including those complicated by H2S. The risks are real and the stakes are high, but the Laurel team brings steady focus to every operation.

Enginer, Robert Sims, and Oporators Kolby and Eric are a well oiled machine on rigs like this one in Summit, MS.
In the first five to eight years, the bulk of the work included injection profiles and logging. That steady focus has also allowed the Laurel team to adapt as industry demands shift.

“We then started a lot of bottom hole temperature and pressure surveys that can be run on either slickline or e-line,” said District Manager Chris Blackledge. “However, in the last three years, we’ve seen a significant shift toward plug and abandonment work.”

Plug and abandonment (P&A) involves permanently closing oil and gas wells that are no longer productive, a highly regulated process that protects groundwater and prevents emissions. In Mississippi, operators must comply with state requirements to shut off CO2 emissions before moving forward with P&A.

“In addition to that work, we also support cased-hole completions, re-completions, and have experience on carbon capture storage wells,” Blackledge added.

Today, the Laurel district delivers a comprehensive suite of services to meet the region’s evolving well-site needs. These include injection profiles and RA production logging, temperature logs, gamma-ray neutron logs, casing inspection with multi-sensor calipers and magnetic flux tools, pipe recovery, perforating, mechanical services, setting bridge plugs (in all sizes and materials), cement retainers, and free point and back-off services. The team is also equipped for tubing and casing jet cuts, NCR cutting, Thomas cutters, and chemical cutters.

Renegade Services Laurel Wireline
The team in Laurel, Mississippi is credited with coining the Renegade slogan "Committed to Quality – Dedicated to Service"
In addition to its foundational capabilities, Laurel offers access to some of the latest technologies introduced company-wide, including the RigLock™ 10K and 15K hands-free Hydraulic Wellhead Latch Assembly (HWLA), the Gunhandler Lay Down/Lift Assist tool, the Local Expander™ Annular Squeeze Tool, and the NuWAV Downhole Camera. Laurel is also a licensed provider of the Kinley™ Cutter, capable of slicing through everything from slickline to 5/16-inch braided cable with precision.

For Chris Blackledge, the district’s strength lies in its consistent, customer-first approach. “Our operations are based on the Renegade theme: Dedicated to Service and Committed to Quality,” he says. “We are dedicated to our customers; we will do our absolute best for them. That’s what differentiates us from our competitors.”

That mindset translates directly into production results. Laurel crews have helped operators identify issues like out-of-zone CO₂ leaks through profile logging and locate casing damage before it jeopardizes well integrity. These insights enable customers to take quick corrective action and maintain continuous production.

With a balanced crew of seasoned veterans and rising talent, the Laurel district reflects Renegade’s commitment to long-term excellence and continuity in the field. Several team members bring more than 30 years of experience—one with over 45—while others are building on five to ten years of hands-on growth. That combination of mentorship and fresh perspective fuels a collaborative culture, both on and off the job.

That same spirit extends into the community. From sponsoring Little League World Series teams to supporting local high school programs in athletics and the arts, the Laurel district invests in the people and places they call home. The team has stepped up after natural disasters, supported the VA through infrastructure donations, and consistently shows up for one another through grassroots fundraising and local drives when families face hardships.

Whether it’s helping with a local crisis or troubleshooting a complex well, the Laurel crew brings experience, reliability, and heart to everything they do. With a proven track record in safe well-site operations, including injection profiles, BHP surveys, pipe recovery, cased hole logging, and more. This team stands ready to meet the evolving needs of operators across the Gulf Coast region.

Renegade Wireline Services: Where It All Began

In the world of oil and gas, success isn’t just about innovation—it’s about the people who take risks, trust each other, and commit to building something bigger than themselves.

That’s the story of Renegade Wireline Services. Long before it became North America’s largest independent wireline company, it started with a handful of industry veterans who believed in an idea and a leader.

The birthplace of Renegade wasn’t in a boardroom—it was in the heart of the Marcellus Shale, where Randy Cassady and a small but determined group of industry pioneers saw an opportunity to change the game. This first district wasn’t just the start of a business; it was the foundation for a company built on trust, expertise, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.

The First Renegades: Employee #1, #2, and Beyond

Renegade Services SWPA District 1 and Wireline Services crew

It all began with a simple but powerful question: “Are y’all serious about this?” That’s what Cassady asked Rodney Offield and Lee Cozby when they first considered leaving their familiar work in Texas to take a chance on something new in Pennsylvania. Their answer? A resounding “yes.”

Cozby and Offield, along with the first group of Renegade employees, weren’t just joining a company—they were shaping its identity. They left behind job security, uprooted their families, and embraced the unknown because they believed in the vision.

“Randy always treated us right,” Cozby recalls. “You could tell he cared about the employees and always wanted to take care of everyone. He wasn’t scared to move into another area and make things happen.”

Offield echoed that trust, recalling a conversation at an Irish pub in Pittsburgh where everything changed. “Randy told us he never dreamed of owning a wireline company, but felt it was something he needed to do. That’s all I needed to hear. We were all in.”

With a handshake and a shared commitment, Renegade Wireline Services was born.

Building a Legacy, One Well at a Time From the very beginning, the first Renegade district in Pennsylvania operated with a distinct approach—one rooted in the work ethic and values of West Texas. These early employees weren’t just technicians; they were problem solvers, innovators, and industry pioneers.

PERFORATING SERVICES

Renegade has a full range of services, equipment and expertise to establish communication between the formation and the wellbore to get the well flowing and then maintain production throughout the life of the well.

Customized perforating gun systems and thorough pre-planning help ensure the gun meets the specific need of the well, every time.

Perforating is an important part of the hydraulic fracturing process, but it is not a one-size-fits-all proposition; precise tool configuration should be a priority. Hole diameter, penetration depth, shot spacing and number of shots are all critical to properly fracturing a difficult zone. Renegade provides the precise gun configuration that you need to get the right-sized perforation to meet the specifications of each well. Although speed and efficiency are top priorities, we don’t sacrifice precision or safety. Each perforating gun is custom built to meet the requirements of the individual job. We offer a variety of sizes, lengths, charges and performance specifications that work with a variety of tools and manufacturers.

Wellsite coordination is key to a successful frac

At the wellsite, each stage of a frac job requires multiple companies to work together to successfully complete the job. Coordinating these efforts can be time consuming. The success of every well completion depends on having the right equipment, the right crew, and a precise system that eliminates the risk of unnecessary delays. At Renegade, our vendor relationships are at the heart of our business. Our exceptional vendor relationships mean Renegade can source the right tool and get it to the rig site quickly. We maintain excellent relationships with our vendors which insures a quick response to special requests.

Compensated Neutron Log

A compensated neutron log is useful for identifying zones of interest and determining perforating depths, tracking gas cap movement and gas encroachment under shale layers, as a correlation between open and cased hole where a gamma ray is not indicative, and to measure overall porosity of the well. At Renegade we primarily use the compensated neutron log (CNL) to identify pay zones in a well. Once the zones of interest are identified and logged, the engineer can make an informed decision on perforation placement.

Gamma Ray Log

The Gamma Ray Log measures total natural radioactivity and is displayed in American Petroleum Institute (API) units. The measurement can be made in both openhole and through casing. Shales and clay are responsible for most natural radioactivity, so the gamma ray log is often a good indicator of such rock. The log is also used for correlation between wells, for depth correlation between open and cased hole, and for depth correlation between logging runs.

SWAT Spectral Well Analysis Tool

A successful well completion is a critical part of your well’s production plan. Renegade Tracer Technologies monitors the frac job to optimally place proppant and fluid and verify job performance. SWAT Spectral Well Analysis Technology is Renegade’s line of post-frac logging tools used to identify and define radioactive isotopes. These tools offer real-time or memory data in a 1-11/16-in. OD tool configuration.

  • Locates radioactive tracers
  • Identifies fractures
  • Helps optimally place proppant and fluid
  • Verify performance of the frac job
Isotope Half-Life Gamma Ray Energy
Iridium-192            74 days 317,468,604 KeV
Scandium-46        84 days 889,1120 KeV
Antimony -124      60 days 603,1691 KeV
Iodine -131            8 days 364 KeV
Spectral Gamma Ray Tool

Spectral Gamma Ray Tool provides information about the mineralogy of formations, specifically the source of a particular gamma ray by measuring the amplitude or energy level. Since the most frequent sources of natural radiation in the formation are thorium, uranium and potassium, the tool can measure the amount of each in shale and sand formations.

  • Provides detailed stratigraphic correlation
  • Identifies depositional environments
  • Determines clay type analysis and volume
  • Heavy mineral identification

The tool utilizes a large, ruggedized scintillation detector to measure the quantity of naturally occurring potassium, uranium and thorium. The total gamma spectrum is resolved into 256 channels internally and used to determine the components of naturally occurring radiation in sands and shales. This data is used to distinguish important features of the clay or sand around the wellbore formation such as clay volume, clay type, heavy minerals and is also used for fracture detection.

The detector package is designed to maximize the energy spectra sensitivity over the entire range of energy levels and logging speeds encountered in various formations. The tool uses an automatic internal stabilization circuit to stabilize the detector and electronics for temperature drift errors over the entire operating temperature range.

Renegade Production Logging Services
» Our wellsite production logging supervisors have over 25 years’ experience running production logging services and can recommend the treatment options in case remedial operations are needed.

Production Logging Services

Critical Data to Help Maintain Well Performance

Production Logging services evaluate fluid production rate and flow in producing wells and are a main indicator of well performance and problem identification. The results of a production logging services help recommend remedial treatment or workover operations.

Renegade Production Profile Logging has proven to be the most reliable logging technique to give operators qualitative and quantitative evaluation of injection fluids and to aid in the evaluation of the performance of field floods.

The same technique can be reversed for producing wells. Radioactive tracer surveys ran in conjunction with other surveys, such as temperature gradient, capacitance, velocity, bottom-hole pressure, fluid density and calipers, will give the operator a full complement of surveying techniques to help fully evaluate their wells.

Applications

  • Locate oil, gas and water entry
  • Fluid flow: no-flow check and cross-flow check
  • Shut-in cross-flow check
  • Injection profile log: pump-in tracer, channel-down check and CO2 composite
Renegade Production Logging
» Renegade designs the optimum production logging job with the right tools and equipment.

While many companies may provide this service, only Renegade has the knowledge to perform a successful job every time.

Renegade Services has several production logging supervisors with over 25 years’ experience running production logging services. Our team will work with the operator to help ensure a safe, successful job, completed in the least amount of time.

  • Select the right tools and equipment
  • Make sure pressure control equipment is on location
  • Review all well conditions such as temperature and pressure
  • Weight bars and backup tools are available if needed
  • Selection of radioactive isotope
  • Safe operating procedures for handling and storage of radioactive materials
Step-Rate Tests

Obtaining data is the key to planning a successful frac job. Step-Rate tests are one method for estimating the maximum injection pressure, one of the most useful parameters when planning the optimum frac treatment.

A step rate test can accurately measure the injection pressure needed to fracture a formation when planning a hydraulic frac job. During the test, fluid is injected into the formation at increasing pump rates. As each rate stabilizes, injection pressure data is taken for each rate. The resulting data is used to create a plot displaying injection pressure verse injection rate. From this plot, pressure and flow rates can be established to identify the fracture pressure necessary to fracture the formation and successfully place fluid and proppant.

Spectral Noise/Digital Temperature Survey

The relationship between reservoir flow and wellbore flow is critical to well performance. The Renegade spectral noise log in conjunction with a high-precision digital temperature survey can accurately locate and quantify reservoir flow and wellbore flow to help determine the relation between the two.

This combination can diagnose unexpected well problems and also proactively ensure the well is working properly. Resulting data provides a wealth of information on well performance and can help identify zones where remediation is needed.

  • Identify surface casing vent flow (SCVF)
  • Identify external gas migration (GM)
  • Identify fluid flow behind multiple casing pipe barriers
  • Locate source of downhole leaks
  • Help identify leaking fluids into freshwater reservoirs
  • Identify regional lateral flows and crossflows
  • Differentiate fluid and gas flow and amount
  • Identify annulus leaks for sealing with Renegade Local Expander technology so P&A can commence

Renegade can use bond logs and casing inspection logs to identify, map and further explain spectral noise/digital temperature survey data.

Renegade Memory Gauges

A producing wellbore creates a tremendous amount of information that must be gathered, managed and then interpreted. A variety of diagnostic tools can help you manage the production of your well and gain valuable insights into the processes that are occurring downhole. These tools provide the data that help operators to identify what systems to use to increase or maintain production and how to adapt to changing conditions of the wellbore.

Memory gauges are one of the most helpful tools for well diagnostics. They detect and measure temperature and pressure at points along the wellbore. These gauges are beneficial because they provide downhole information without requiring substantial resources.

They also eliminate the need for deploying e-line each time temperature and pressure measurements are required.  Memory gauges are powered by a battery pack and can be set downhole and left for an extended period to capture and store data and then be retrieved at a later date.

  • Data can be used to determine the flow rate of the well
  • Provide information to help implement the right lift systems to maintain production
  • Help devise a cost-effective and timely program to monitor and maintain the well production
