Renegade Wireline Services: Where It All Began
In the world of oil and gas, success isn’t just about innovation—it’s about the people who take risks, trust each other, and commit to building something bigger than themselves.
That’s the story of Renegade Wireline Services. Long before it became North America’s largest independent wireline company, it started with a handful of industry veterans who believed in an idea and a leader.
The birthplace of Renegade wasn’t in a boardroom—it was in the heart of the Marcellus Shale, where Randy Cassady and a small but determined group of industry pioneers saw an opportunity to change the game. This first district wasn’t just the start of a business; it was the foundation for a company built on trust, expertise, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
The First Renegades: Employee #1, #2, and Beyond
It all began with a simple but powerful question: “Are y’all serious about this?” That’s what Cassady asked Rodney Offield and Lee Cozby when they first considered leaving their familiar work in Texas to take a chance on something new in Pennsylvania. Their answer? A resounding “yes.”
Cozby and Offield, along with the first group of Renegade employees, weren’t just joining a company—they were shaping its identity. They left behind job security, uprooted their families, and embraced the unknown because they believed in the vision.
“Randy always treated us right,” Cozby recalls. “You could tell he cared about the employees and always wanted to take care of everyone. He wasn’t scared to move into another area and make things happen.”
Offield echoed that trust, recalling a conversation at an Irish pub in Pittsburgh where everything changed. “Randy told us he never dreamed of owning a wireline company, but felt it was something he needed to do. That’s all I needed to hear. We were all in.”
With a handshake and a shared commitment, Renegade Wireline Services was born.
Building a Legacy, One Well at a Time From the very beginning, the first Renegade district in Pennsylvania operated with a distinct approach—one rooted in the work ethic and values of West Texas. These early employees weren’t just technicians; they were problem solvers, innovators, and industry pioneers.
