Dedicated to Service, Committed to Quality at Our Gulf Coast Wireline Services Hub in Laurel Mississippi

Trusted Services and Dedicated Specialists Bring Quality to Every Job in Mississippi and Beyond

Tucked into the heart of southern Mississippi, the Renegade district in Laurel is more than just a dot on the map, it’s a vital hub in a region known for tough terrain, hotter wells, and longer hauls. Since opening in 2014, the Laurel district has taken on the challenge of covering an expansive footprint, stretching from the Gulf to Georgia, and as far west as the Texas line. Supporting operators across the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale, Midway, Cotton Valley, and Smackover plays, the Laurel team regularly tackles high-temperature, high-pressure wells, including those complicated by H2S. The risks are real and the stakes are high, but the Laurel team brings steady focus to every operation.

Robert Blackledge and his son, Will. Renegade proudly sponsors the local Dixie League Baseball teams.
Enginer, Robert Sims, and Oporators Kolby and Eric are a well oiled machine on rigs like this one in Summit, MS.
In the first five to eight years, the bulk of the work included injection profiles and logging. That steady focus has also allowed the Laurel team to adapt as industry demands shift.

“We then started a lot of bottom hole temperature and pressure surveys that can be run on either slickline or e-line,” said District Manager Chris Blackledge. “However, in the last three years, we’ve seen a significant shift toward plug and abandonment work.”

Plug and abandonment (P&A) involves permanently closing oil and gas wells that are no longer productive, a highly regulated process that protects groundwater and prevents emissions. In Mississippi, operators must comply with state requirements to shut off CO2 emissions before moving forward with P&A.

“In addition to that work, we also support cased-hole completions, re-completions, and have experience on carbon capture storage wells,” Blackledge added.

Today, the Laurel district delivers a comprehensive suite of services to meet the region’s evolving well-site needs. These include injection profiles and RA production logging, temperature logs, gamma-ray neutron logs, casing inspection with multi-sensor calipers and magnetic flux tools, pipe recovery, perforating, mechanical services, setting bridge plugs (in all sizes and materials), cement retainers, and free point and back-off services. The team is also equipped for tubing and casing jet cuts, NCR cutting, Thomas cutters, and chemical cutters.

The team in Laurel, Mississippi is credited with coining the Renegade slogan "Committed to Quality – Dedicated to Service"
In addition to its foundational capabilities, Laurel offers access to some of the latest technologies introduced company-wide, including the RigLock™ 10K and 15K hands-free Hydraulic Wellhead Latch Assembly (HWLA), the Gunhandler Lay Down/Lift Assist tool, the Local Expander™ Annular Squeeze Tool, and the NuWAV Downhole Camera. Laurel is also a licensed provider of the Kinley™ Cutter, capable of slicing through everything from slickline to 5/16-inch braided cable with precision.

For Chris Blackledge, the district’s strength lies in its consistent, customer-first approach. “Our operations are based on the Renegade theme: Dedicated to Service and Committed to Quality,” he says. “We are dedicated to our customers; we will do our absolute best for them. That’s what differentiates us from our competitors.”

That mindset translates directly into production results. Laurel crews have helped operators identify issues like out-of-zone CO₂ leaks through profile logging and locate casing damage before it jeopardizes well integrity. These insights enable customers to take quick corrective action and maintain continuous production.

With a balanced crew of seasoned veterans and rising talent, the Laurel district reflects Renegade’s commitment to long-term excellence and continuity in the field. Several team members bring more than 30 years of experience—one with over 45—while others are building on five to ten years of hands-on growth. That combination of mentorship and fresh perspective fuels a collaborative culture, both on and off the job.

That same spirit extends into the community. From sponsoring Little League World Series teams to supporting local high school programs in athletics and the arts, the Laurel district invests in the people and places they call home. The team has stepped up after natural disasters, supported the VA through infrastructure donations, and consistently shows up for one another through grassroots fundraising and local drives when families face hardships.

Whether it’s helping with a local crisis or troubleshooting a complex well, the Laurel crew brings experience, reliability, and heart to everything they do. With a proven track record in safe well-site operations, including injection profiles, BHP surveys, pipe recovery, cased hole logging, and more. This team stands ready to meet the evolving needs of operators across the Gulf Coast region.

Renegade Wireline Services: Where It All Began

In the world of oil and gas, success isn’t just about innovation—it’s about the people who take risks, trust each other, and commit to building something bigger than themselves.

That’s the story of Renegade Wireline Services. Long before it became North America’s largest independent wireline company, it started with a handful of industry veterans who believed in an idea and a leader.

The birthplace of Renegade wasn’t in a boardroom—it was in the heart of the Marcellus Shale, where Randy Cassady and a small but determined group of industry pioneers saw an opportunity to change the game. This first district wasn’t just the start of a business; it was the foundation for a company built on trust, expertise, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.

The First Renegades: Employee #1, #2, and Beyond

It all began with a simple but powerful question: “Are y’all serious about this?” That’s what Cassady asked Rodney Offield and Lee Cozby when they first considered leaving their familiar work in Texas to take a chance on something new in Pennsylvania. Their answer? A resounding “yes.”

Cozby and Offield, along with the first group of Renegade employees, weren’t just joining a company—they were shaping its identity. They left behind job security, uprooted their families, and embraced the unknown because they believed in the vision.

“Randy always treated us right,” Cozby recalls. “You could tell he cared about the employees and always wanted to take care of everyone. He wasn’t scared to move into another area and make things happen.”

Offield echoed that trust, recalling a conversation at an Irish pub in Pittsburgh where everything changed. “Randy told us he never dreamed of owning a wireline company, but felt it was something he needed to do. That’s all I needed to hear. We were all in.”

With a handshake and a shared commitment, Renegade Wireline Services was born.

Building a Legacy, One Well at a Time From the very beginning, the first Renegade district in Pennsylvania operated with a distinct approach—one rooted in the work ethic and values of West Texas. These early employees weren’t just technicians; they were problem solvers, innovators, and industry pioneers.

Forging the Future: Building a Legacy Through Generational Talent

Investing in the next generation to uphold excellence, safety, and innovation in wireline services.

At Renegade Wireline Services, we believe in the power of investing in the next generation. As a company built on a foundation of hard work, safety, and innovation, our commitment to recruiting and mentoring goes beyond filling positions; it’s about ensuring the long-term success and sustainability of our organization.

By fostering a culture of growth, collaboration, and ownership, we are shaping the future of our company and the industry.

A Generational Approach to Success

We consider our company to be a generational company, where the knowledge and expertise of seasoned professionals are passed down to the next wave of talent. This philosophy ensures that the company’s values and operational excellence remain consistent across decades.

“We feel it’s easier to train than retrain, so we like to find younger personnel, teach them how to work, teach them how to turn a wrench. When we do this, we find that we build a loyal employee base.”

Matt Gray, President Renegade Services

This dedication to cultivating talent from within is reflected in our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), which allows employees to share in the ownership of the company.

Rayan Alqarni, an intern pursuing a degree in Petroleum Engineering, expressed his gratitude for the experience gained from mentors at Renegade Wireline Services.

“This experience has reinforced my commitment to my field of study. Working with Renegade has not only deepened my understanding of the industry but also challenged me to learn and grow in ways I hadn’t anticipated,”

Rayan Alqarni, Petroleum Engineering student, intern

Through hands-on training and mentorship from experienced professionals, interns gain invaluable insights into the industry.

“The chance to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world situations has been an eye-opening and rewarding experience,” Alqarni continued. “I have been fortunate enough to learn from engineers with vast experience in wireline operations. Their mentorship exposed me to the complex problem-solving that wireline services require and the critical role these services play in the oil and gas production process.”

A Culture of Collaboration and Safety

This sense of camaraderie motivates employees at all levels to contribute their best and work together toward common goals.

“What I deeply appreciate about Renegade is the family-like environment that is fostered within the company,” Alqarni emphasized. “The genuine willingness to help, support, and teach one another is something that truly stands out.”

Safety, a cornerstone of operations at Renegade, is also integral to training programs.

“The safety culture at Renegade is something I truly admire,” Alqarni noted. “From daily safety briefings to the detailed implementation of safety protocols, Renegade ensures that every team member is equipped to work safely.”

This unwavering commitment to safety not only protects employees but also enhances the company’s reputation and operational success.

A Vision for Global Impact

Our dedication to developing talent and fostering a culture of excellence positions it for continued growth and success.

As Alqarni aptly put it, “The quality of work and the exceptional talent within the company position Renegade as a potential leader in the international wireline services market. The company’s values, correlated with its outstanding operational practices, make it clear that Renegade is well-equipped to thrive on the global stage.”

We want to thank Rayan Alqarni personally for his great feedback and for the hard and meaningful work he put in during his internship with us.

At Renegade, we see investing in the next generation as more than just a business strategy; it’s a commitment to our legacy and the future of the industry. By training, mentoring, and empowering younger employees, we are building a resilient and innovative workforce that will carry our company forward for years to come, and by mentoring youth who are interested in joining the industry. Together, we are shaping a future where excellence, safety, and collaboration continue to define who we are.

Renegade Services Featured on Viewpoint with Dennis Quaid: A Commitment to Innovation and Employee Well-being

Renegade Services is proud to announce its feature on Viewpoint with Dennis Quaid, a television series dedicated to showcasing stories of innovation and progress across various industries. Hosted by Dennis Quaid, the show highlights solutions to modern challenges and the forward-thinking companies shaping our world.

Renegade Services was invited to participate in this prestigious program, and we are thrilled to share the segment that focuses on our commitment to both the environment and the well-being of our employees. The episode covers Renegade’s role in addressing environmental concerns within the oil and gas industry, particularly the challenge of orphan wells, and highlights the company’s efforts to create a family-oriented workplace through the Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP).

Tackling Environmental Challenges

In West Texas, abandoned, or “orphan” wells, have become a significant environmental issue. These wells, left unattended without proper management, leak harmful gases into the soil, jeopardizing natural resources. Renegade Services is addressing this challenge head-on, utilizing new technology to manage these wells effectively and mitigate their environmental impact. As Matt Gray, one of Renegade’s leaders, points out in the segment, “We do recognize the problem of orphan wells… and we know that we have several solutions for orphan wells. It’s fixing problems that present themselves.”

Renegade’s expertise in wireline services is a vital part of the solution. The company’s innovative approach ensures that these orphan wells are managed safely, contributing to environmental preservation and regulatory compliance.

A Culture of Family and Growth

At Renegade, the well-being of our employees is just as important as the work we do for our clients. The segment highlights our Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP), which allows employees to become stakeholders in the company, fostering a sense of ownership and commitment. This model not only drives the company’s growth but also helps retain employees in an industry often plagued by high turnover.

Randy Cassady, Co-Founder of Renegade Services, shares that the primary goal has always been to “build a place where we could finish our careers and create a good place to work.” This dedication to creating a family-oriented culture is a cornerstone of Renegade’s success, ensuring that our team is motivated and well-supported. As Buddy Thompson, an Oilfield Specialist, states, “Retention of employees comes from those employees being treated like family.”

A Bright Future for Renegade Services

As the segment concludes, the future of Renegade Services is bright. Matt Gray envisions continued growth, powered by our technology, employee commitment, and innovation. “The value of Renegade is all in its employees and their strive to be better,” he says.

We are proud of the progress we’ve made and excited for what lies ahead. The future of Renegade Services is centered on a commitment to both the community and the environment, creating a safer, more sustainable future for everyone.
