Tucked into the heart of southern Mississippi, the Renegade district in Laurel is more than just a dot on the map, it’s a vital hub in a region known for tough terrain, hotter wells, and longer hauls. Since opening in 2014, the Laurel district has taken on the challenge of covering an expansive footprint, stretching from the Gulf to Georgia, and as far west as the Texas line. Supporting operators across the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale, Midway, Cotton Valley, and Smackover plays, the Laurel team regularly tackles high-temperature, high-pressure wells, including those complicated by H2S. The risks are real and the stakes are high, but the Laurel team brings steady focus to every operation.

Robert Blackledge and his son, Will. Renegade proudly sponsors the local Dixie League Baseball teams.

Enginer, Robert Sims, and Oporators Kolby and Eric are a well oiled machine on rigs like this one in Summit, MS.
“We then started a lot of bottom hole temperature and pressure surveys that can be run on either slickline or e-line,” said District Manager Chris Blackledge. “However, in the last three years, we’ve seen a significant shift toward plug and abandonment work.”
Plug and abandonment (P&A) involves permanently closing oil and gas wells that are no longer productive, a highly regulated process that protects groundwater and prevents emissions. In Mississippi, operators must comply with state requirements to shut off CO2 emissions before moving forward with P&A.
“In addition to that work, we also support cased-hole completions, re-completions, and have experience on carbon capture storage wells,” Blackledge added.
Today, the Laurel district delivers a comprehensive suite of services to meet the region’s evolving well-site needs. These include injection profiles and RA production logging, temperature logs, gamma-ray neutron logs, casing inspection with multi-sensor calipers and magnetic flux tools, pipe recovery, perforating, mechanical services, setting bridge plugs (in all sizes and materials), cement retainers, and free point and back-off services. The team is also equipped for tubing and casing jet cuts, NCR cutting, Thomas cutters, and chemical cutters.

For Chris Blackledge, the district’s strength lies in its consistent, customer-first approach. “Our operations are based on the Renegade theme: Dedicated to Service and Committed to Quality,” he says. “We are dedicated to our customers; we will do our absolute best for them. That’s what differentiates us from our competitors.”
That mindset translates directly into production results. Laurel crews have helped operators identify issues like out-of-zone CO₂ leaks through profile logging and locate casing damage before it jeopardizes well integrity. These insights enable customers to take quick corrective action and maintain continuous production.
With a balanced crew of seasoned veterans and rising talent, the Laurel district reflects Renegade’s commitment to long-term excellence and continuity in the field. Several team members bring more than 30 years of experience—one with over 45—while others are building on five to ten years of hands-on growth. That combination of mentorship and fresh perspective fuels a collaborative culture, both on and off the job.
That same spirit extends into the community. From sponsoring Little League World Series teams to supporting local high school programs in athletics and the arts, the Laurel district invests in the people and places they call home. The team has stepped up after natural disasters, supported the VA through infrastructure donations, and consistently shows up for one another through grassroots fundraising and local drives when families face hardships.
Whether it’s helping with a local crisis or troubleshooting a complex well, the Laurel crew brings experience, reliability, and heart to everything they do. With a proven track record in safe well-site operations, including injection profiles, BHP surveys, pipe recovery, cased hole logging, and more. This team stands ready to meet the evolving needs of operators across the Gulf Coast region.
